Delivery and real progress!

I was headed to Lampasas to mail a package and got the following text.
So I turned around and headed for the house...I was still in the driveway ( its 2 miles long) so it wasnt that big of a deal.
The framers and Hershul arrived first and we spoke for a couple of minutes.  Max of Fat Max Framing and Carpentry thought that the lumber would be here but it hadn't arrived yet.  He waited about 10 more minutes and then said he was gonna go check on another job close by.  Hershul and I spoke for about 10 more minutes  and then he headed out.  Next thing I knew I was getting a text from Hershul who said " Lumber is on it's way in.  I'll call Fat Max.  Then another text that said Fat Max and crew would be there at 1 o' clock.  They were and the following is what they got done.
For a half day OK f work I'd say they did a lot.  Very happy!

Mixed Feelings

I just found out that our old home that we sold has been turned into an Airbnb.

https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/48525886?check_in=2021-08-02&check_out=2021-08-09&guests=1&adults=2&s=2&unique_share_id=c31cb98c-8c57-4820-9800-8407df4b4317

I have mixed feelings about it.  On one hand it doesnt belong to us anymore, we sold it.  On the other hand it was a home that Bob and I built.  There was a lot of love that went into building that place and somehow turning it into an Airbnb just doesnt set well with me.  I guess because the new owners kept writing me and telling me just how much they " loved" it.  I kept saying that I hoped they would have many years of making wonderful memories like we had....gonna have to sit on this one a while....

UGH!

This is Saturday evening and lumber that was supposed to be here today did not arrive.  I'm bummed of course but then look at the forecast.  If they dropped the lumber off it would be sitting on the slab getting nothing but wet.  Or on the ground getting wet.
So maybe it's best it wasnt delivered.  But I'm still bummed.

At last...l

Got this text yesterday.
Oh joy.  Looks like progress is gonna begin in earnest. But....
And theres the forecast for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Although this is Texas after all and by Friday ( tomorrow) this could all disappear.  I like the rain, we need the rain and at this time of the year is a real pleasant surprise.
Once the roof goes on it doesnt matter.  All work can continue, it's just this beginning...this beginning needs to be dry.

Framing Materials

Framing materials did in fact arrive today. June 10, 2021.  Whoopie!
Heres the truck.  All that material is ours.  Looks like a lot but once you start breaking down the individual components it doesnt seem like a lot.
This is the framing itself.  So closest to the slab is I-beams.  They will be used for rafters.  Next to that is square tubing which will be used for the upright columns and lastly we have C purlins which are used in the walls and roof.
Heres a close up and personal shot.
Those square pieces of metal on the left are plates or tabs that are welded to the framing in order to keep stuff square and plumb.  The small stack of tin underneath part of the porch roof at the front door.  The other boxes contain different colored screws.
This is tin for the roof and the trim that goes around the house.
And this last batch is more roof tin and eaves.
Now for the bad news....General Contractor cannot get here for at least 10 days.  Our home is not the only one he's working on and we are not the only ones who have had delays.  It is what it is.  Our good news is that our material was ordered before all the price jumps in material.  I think when you build a home you have to have a TON of patience.  You need to be able to be very flexible and realise that not everything is gonna happen when you want it to.  Our last home that we built was all on us because we were doing almost all the work.  This house we've turned over to someone else and it will happen when it happens.

A little Sun!

Bob and I were headed into town this morning to deliver some dollies he built for a friend and a truck happened to pass us with metal framing materials on it.  We looked at each other and hoped maybe it was ours.  Then I got this text
So big whoop!  Hopefully more pics tomorrow.
