Why is paint so hard?

So Bob and I have had our paint picked out for quite a while now.  It's from Behr and the color is Tostada.  On the chip we picked out it looks like a very soft desert hue resembling a sand color.
The master bedroom and a guest bedroom got one coat yesterday and I hate it!  It looks far too orangey-yellow on the wall but that would line up with the name.  The chip just doesnt look like that at all.  I even took the chip down there to compare it and it matches but something just isnt right about it and I dont think I can live with it...paint it now or paint it later, it might as well happen now.
This is what it currently looks like.
This is what I was going for.  You be the judge.
So before they got any further I called Corry the paint guy and told him that although the Chip matched perfectly with what was on the wall, the whole thing together was far too orangey-yellow.  Could we possibly add some white to the mixture and tone it down.  He said unfortunately with paint, it doesnt work that way....I would end up with the same orangey- yellow paint.  This just does not make any sense to me but I'm not a paint expert.  I only mix gel colors for cookie decorating and you get change if you mix white with any color...so why not paint.  I have since heard from other people who tell me the same thing.  It's a shame cause it would be a cheap fix.
So Corry came out and agreed that the color was not as he expected either but we still have to buy new paint.  Corry had a whole palette for us to choose from and we chose something called Whole Wheat.
I think we chose well.  It's a tiny bit darker in person but I love it.  Exactly what I was going for with the first color.  Color me happy!

The Light at the end of the Tunnel.

The " Grotto" is what we are gonna call the master shower.  It's really beautiful and we are thrilled with the results.
Of course the fixtures still need to be installed but that's at the end.  That blue piece of plastic gets removed as well.
Notice the seat in the corner.
And the back of the neich will have a piece of tile put in it.  The same tile that the floor will have.  I didnt put it in the picture cause the packages with the tile are very heavy and the cardboard is kinda fragile...it still needs to be moved from the shop up here down to the house and we dont want to lose any more than we have to.
The hearth and the rock up the wall to protect it from the heat off the wood burning stove pipe is done.  We had a hard time explaining to Andres that we wanted the edges to run wild with no straight lines but he had a harder time conceiving it.  All in all we like what's hes done and probably no one will notice but us.
After A LOT of discussion the texture guys came back and added more texture to the walls.  When I spoke with Shane originally he was supposed to provide me with 4 samples of something that resembled Spanish Knife or something similar to stucco. I never hot those and  I kept getting the same run around with " well in order to do what you want it's a fine line of what will go through the gun and having it too watery".  O.K., isnt this your job?  Isn't this what you do for a living?  If it's got to be applied by hand toweling then go for it....so above picture is what I got and I think it will be fine once we have paint on it and Bob and I are thinking we might just do a tea or coffee wash over this to highlight the texture a bit more.  Wont know that until paint is dried.  Painting is happening today.
